Jay Tan is an Investment Officer at LionGuard Capital Management Inc. He conducts fundamental research on companies and industries of interest, writes detailed research reports based on thorough due diligence and analysis. Jay also attends companies annual shareholders meetings and numerous industry conferences, reviews financial statements of the companies of interest, ensures to be on top of any changes to the regulatory environment as it pertains to the securities of interest, etc.
He is also a key participant during the regular risk management meetings and PRI (Principles for responsible investment) assessments.
As part of his Investment Officer duties, Jay assists Chief Investment Officer in managing funds exposures and makes sure that all the research personnel adheres to the core LionGuard investment philosophy. Jay frequently provides feedback and trains more junior members of the investment team.
Initially trained as a biologist, Jay discovered mid-way through his science study that his true passion lies in the art (and science) of securities selection. The revelation came as a result of his interactions with numerous finance professionals and his early readings of Joel Greenblatt's works. Mr. Tan especially values the intellectual challenge that comes with his current job requirements, which satisfy his thirst for knowledge and curiosity about the inner workings of the economic engine.
Mr. Tan is a graduate of University of Waterloo, where he obtained Bachelor of Science in Biology. He is a CFA Charterholder since 2017. Prior to joining LionGuard, he worked at CIBC Wealth Management in Montreal.
